Every April, communities across the nation recognize Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM)—a time to raise awareness, support survivors, and work toward a future free from sexual violence. At Branch House Family Justice Center, we are committed to providing resources, education, and advocacy to create safer communities for everyone.
Understanding the Impact
Sexual violence affects individuals of all ages, genders, and backgrounds. According to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC), one in three women and one in six men experience some form of sexual violence in their lifetime. The impact goes beyond the individual, affecting families, workplaces, and entire communities.
The Importance of Awareness and Prevention
SAAM serves as a powerful reminder that prevention starts with education, advocacy, and action. By learning about consent, healthy relationships, and bystander intervention, we can help create a culture where sexual violence is not tolerated.
Ways to get involved:
Educate Yourself & Others – Share facts and resources to help dispel myths about sexual violence.
Wear Teal – Teal is the official color of SAAM, symbolizing support for survivors and a commitment to prevention.
Engage in Conversations – Talk about consent, respect, and healthy relationships with family, friends, and colleagues.
Support Survivors – Believe and listen to survivors who share their experiences, and help connect them with resources.
Attend Awareness Events – Participate in local events like community walks, panel discussions, and workshops.
Our Commitment at Branch House
At Branch House Family Justice Center, we provide a safe space for survivors to seek help, access support services, and find the resources they need to heal. We work closely with community partners to ensure survivors receive comprehensive care, including legal assistance, counseling, and advocacy.
This April, we encourage everyone to take part in Sexual Assault Awareness Month by standing with survivors, amplifying their voices, and working together to end sexual violence. Change begins with awareness, and together, we can create a safer, more supportive world for all.
